HOLIDAY - C1. - Pike and Barbel fishing on the lower Esla.
Information
The lower river Esla holds good stocks of Barbel, also some Carp, Black Bass, and Tench, but is primarily a Pike fishery, the foremost in Spain.
The wide slow stretches with reedy banks and fallen trees provide ideal Pike habitat, while the faster reaches hold large barbel. A new and increasingly popular sport is fly fishing for both Pike and Barbel in this area. Better still you will probably have the water to yourself.
Places of local interest include Las Salinas de Villafafila, which has the world's largest population of Avutardas a large goose like bird.
